Clearwater Airport Train Transfers

When arriving at Clearwater Airport, travelers have a variety of options for ground transportation, including taxis, ridesharing services, rental vehicles, and hotel shuttles.

Sadly, there is no connection between the trains here and the railway station at Clearwater International. For less than $40 and $65, respectively, visitors can take a taxi from PIE to St. Petersburg Station and Tampa Union Station swiftly.

Here are your alternatives if you're one of the travelers who need to change at the Amtrak train station.

Tampa Union Station (TUS)

Joseph F. Leitner was the architect of this iconic train station in Florida. In 1912, the Tampa Union Station Company opened it. The primary goal was to combine the operations of three service providers, notably Tampa Northern Railroad, Atlantic Coast Line, and Seaboard Air Line.

It was added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The building was given local landmark designation by the City of Tampa in 1988. TUS stopped operating in 1984 and reopened to the public in 1998, 14 years later.

It is currently a Thruway Motorcoach Services Amtrak station for the Silver Star. Services are offered to the following locations: Orlando, Lakeland, Bradenton, Sarasota, Port Charlotte, Fort Myers, Pinellas Park-St. Petersburg,

St. Petersburg (Amtrak) Station

In St. Petersburg, Florida, Amtrak used to have a passenger train station. The government attempted to relocate the original facility near Downtown. Still, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad decided to build it at its current location instead.

The Seaboard Coast Line Railroad took over the station's management in 1968. It continued doing so until Amtrak took over in 1971. When Amtrak ceased providing service to Pinellas County in 1984, passenger rail transportation to St. Petersburg came to a standstill.

Amtrak's Thruway Motorcoach bus service, which connects passengers to rail connections in Tampa and Orlando, kept running from the St. Petersburg station. Until it was closed in the 1990s, the station was used as a boarding point for the bus service.

Through a station in Pinellas Park, Florida, Amtrak still provides Thruway Motorcoach service for St. Petersburg and Pinellas County.
